A major milestone has been reached in the Strong Families Safe Kids redesign with the launch today of the new state-wide advice and referral service.

The Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line is a ‘single front door’ service staffed by qualified Government and community-based providers Mission Australia and Baptcare, who will link Tasmanians with a range of Government and non-government services and programs.

The Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line is the contact point for all mandatory reporters, as well as concerned relatives, friends or neighbours. Parents and children can also call to ask for help for themselves.

The call will be answered by a staff member who will talk to you about the situation, answer your questions, give you information or advice, and if needed, arrange a referral to a service which can best meet the needs of the child.

Importantly, every call is triaged to determine the most appropriate response – including a recommendation for an urgent safety assessment if warranted.

By giving families and carers the support they need earlier, children are less likely to be removed from their families.

A major advertising campaign will support the launch of the Advice and Referral Line’s new number 1800 000 123.

At the heart of the Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line is a more collaborative way of working – a shared responsibility for the welfare of every child.
