Architect's render of Y2I Hobart

More young people will have safe accommodation and support to build independence with the tender to construct a new Youth2 Independence (Y2I) facility advertised on Saturday, 13 November 2021.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to increasing new affordable housing and improving vulnerable Tasmanian’s access to housing.

The Hobart facility will be located near TasTAFE, transport and other services and accommodate up to 26 young people aged 16-24 years.

Each young person accommodated at the facility will have their own studio space and have access to an onsite manager, shared kitchen, indoor and outdoor recreation and quiet spaces.

Architects, Communities Tas and the Salvation Army have worked together to ensure the Y2I design is successfully incorporated on site of the current supported accommodation facility.

Resident privacy and amenity are priorities and contemporary architectural solutions will ensure the two residential facilities operate independently.

The Y2I development is an optimal solution for this inner-city site which was originally designed to provide more residential units.

The construction tender closes in mid-December 2021. The successful builder will be announced after tenders are assessed and approved in March 2022.
