The Autism Advisory Panel was established in 2014 as part of a long term Autism strategy that meets the needs of Tasmanians on the autism spectrum across their lifespan. The panel has now completed their four-year term and has submitted their final report with recommendations to government.

The panel had representatives from Department of Communities Tasmania, Department of Education, service providers, clinicians and families together with the National Disability Insurance Agency.
Since its inception, the panel supported a range of activities and projects including:
- A pilot of Rethink Autism in collaboration with schools
- A partnership with the Autism CRC
- A research trial using Social Attention and Communication Surveillance- Revised (SACS-R) to assist in improved early detection and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
