Communities, Sport and Recreation supports the Tasmanian Youth Forum (TYF) through a Grant Deed with the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT).
TYF is the peak youth consultation body for young people in Tasmania. TYF is open to all young Tasmanians between the ages of 12 and 25 years who are interested in having their say on the issues that matter to them. Some of the opportunities that TYF provides includes:
- responding to Tasmanian government policies and priorities;
- bringing news issues of concern to Government and other groups; and
- developing strategies to help young people to become more involved in the community.
Attending statewide forums
One of the main ways that young people can be involved in TYF is through the TYF Statewide Forums.
TYF convenes two topic-based forums per year that provide young Tasmanians with the chance to talk about the issues they are passionate about with experts and their peers, as well as plan strategies to make change in their own communities.
How forum topics are chosen
The forum topics are chosen by TYF members. Previous topics have included:
- social inclusion
- climate change
- study and stress.
After the forum, a communique is written by participants and presented to politicians, government representatives and important groups. Communiques from previous forums are available.
