Devoted to others
By researching Australian Army Nurse, Alice Elliott (nee King), Rosa Piscioneri discovered a woman who devoted herself to others.
Rosa, a student at Leighland Christian School, in Tasmania, researched Alice for the Frank MacDonald Memorial Study Tour 2017.
During World War One, Alice met and married Lieutenant Colonel Charles Hazell Elliott. Due to the requirement for nurses with the Australian Army Nursing Service to be single, Alice became a volunteer at Harefield Auxiliary Hospital, in England, until 1919.
Rosa's research investigated Alice's war service and life dedicated to charitable organisations including recuperation for retired Sisters, justice for children in the court and volunteering to train World War Two nurses. In 1956, Alice was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her service to charitable organisations.
Rosa concluded that Alice Elliott OBE is an example of a valuable message "devote yourselves to others" and her memory needs to live on.
